2nd International Workshop on Assistive Technology (IWAT2019)

FEBRUARY 18-20 2019 - UFES (CAMPUS GOIABEIRAS), VITORIA (BRAZIL)

Assistive Technology is a multidisciplinary field that involves products, resources, methodologies, strategies, practices and services, which has as the objective to improve the functional capabilities and promote participation of people with disabilities or with reduced mobility in terms of autonomy, independence, quality of life and social inclusion.

The purpose of the realization of this event again in Vitoria (Brazil), after its first edition in 2015, is to continue with the series of events organized by the Assistive Technology Center of UFES/Brazil for People with Disabilities. On the other hand, this workshop will be an opportunity for discussion about innovation among researchers, students and professionals who work with people with disabilities. Additionally, this Workshop will aim to expand the knowledge among these groups in order to bring these innovations to the market, increasing the quality of life of people with disabilities.

This event is intended to authors of original works related to studies, projects, development, experimentation, device evaluation and new or improved methods or techniques that has as goal to get high autonomy, quality of life and social/labor/school integration for people with disabilities. The attendees will be graduate students and professionals of universities, research centers, institution and companies related to rehabilitation and special education.

This Workshop program will consist of several activities, such as:

•    Oral presentations

•    Poster presentations

•    Lectures from invited speakers

These activities will be related to different innovative technological aspects in the following areas:

•    Communication (augmentative and alternative) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI)

•    Mobility (displacement of people with disabilities)

•    Manipulation (control of physical and/or social environment)

•    Orientation (temporal and spatial)

•    Horizontal Actions (activities whose results are not technological developments, but facilitates the research and development of that technology: studies on the influence of political and social environments, studies of specialized training, fabrication, standardization, distribution, and financing process of assistive technology for people with disabilities)

The languages of this Workshop will be Portuguese, Spanish and English.
